Hello there!

My name is Hester Mary Brown, my pronouns are she/her and I am a marriage celebrant from Melbourne, Australia.

I’d be honoured if you’ll call me Hess.

I fell in love with weddings when I was married in Tasmania and was so moved by my own civil celebrant that I became passionate about spreading love and joy through writing and performing ceremonies.

When Australian marriage law was brought into line with my own beliefs and life in late-2017, I signed up right away!

Being a marriage celebrant allows me to combine my loves of romance, writing and performance with my practical skills and training as a law graduate in a meaningful and fulfilling way.

I’m a passionate gender equality advocate working often with Our Watch and other connected organisations and a podcast host on The Significant Others.

I’m also the mum of two little girls, and love a good game of social sport of an evening.

Although I live in Melbourne, I’m often in the fair city of Hobart visiting family, so don’t be afraid to send me a line if you’re getting hitched in Tassie too! (I may also be available across Australia, should the offer arise!)

I’m all about making weddings as inclusive and ethical as possible, and I am also a vegan and big lover of animals and nature!

Love is the best! Let’s prepare a unique, fun and loving ceremony to reflect that!

A big thank you to my darling friend Mardy of All My Wednesdays for the headshots and party photos used on this website.

The gorgeous wedding photos are of Sabrina & Lili’s nuptials at The Line in Footscray taken by Sigrid Peterson Photography, Emma & Tom’s wedding at Rupert on Rupert in Collingwood which were expertly captured by Maegan Brown Moments and Georgia Verrells photos of Chloe & Justin’s wedding.

The on the job ‘Wedding Bestie’ photo was taken by Bec Matheson Photography.

The video above is by the incredible Cass and Kane of CKCS films.

Thank you to all involved for so kindly letting me share them.
